24 January 2016 www.bahrainthismonth.com happenings A fantastic music concert will be held in Bahrain in conjunction with an international cultural conference. The show will feature Missa Johnouchi, an artist of many talents, along with the Bahrain Music Band. Missa was named the UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2006. The Japanese singer, composer and pianist is a prolific performer who creates enchanting New Age music infused with the unmistakable spirit of the Far East. Missa began composing for various TV programmes and theatrical releases while still a student at the Academic Institute of Music of Toho in Japan. This success led her to France where she became a protégé of legendary composer JeanClaude Petit. To date, she has produced dozens of albums and performed globally including the US, China, Tunisia, Italy, Australia, Venezuela, Peru, Canada, Macedonia, Romania and France, among others. For her appearance in the Kingdom, she will be accompanied on stage by the Bahrain Music Band — a musical ensemble formed in 1998 aimed at developing promising Bahraini musical talents and advancing of the nation’s cultural movement as a whole. The group performed its first concert, Tajalliyat Sharqiya and in a very brief period of time, built a loyal following, playing to packed venues in Bahrain and abroad, including the 9th Arab Music Conference and Festival in Cairo in 2000. This success won the band universal support from decision makers and gave birth to a new generation of Bahraini musicians while raising the country’s profile as a centre for art and culture. Only Balcony 1 and 2 are for sale. Tickets are on sale at Virgin Megastore and online at virginmegastore.me. The show starts at 7pm. Minimum age requirement is 10 years.
