76 January 2014 www.bahrainthismonth.com downtimehappenings A regular feature on the Kingdom’s events’ calendar, the Chuckle Club delivers a giggling hysteria this month as well. Hitting our shores are three comic acts, all set to tickle your funny bone. Adam Bloom Considered Britain’s one of the most inventive of comedians, he has performed sell-out solo shows throughout the last two decades at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Adam enjoys a large international following and has opened to packed houses in Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Wellington and Cape Town. He has performed three times at the prestigious Montreal ‘Just for Laughs’ festival and even taken part in the ‘Just for Laughs Comedy Tour’ in 2004, performing to 42,000 people in 17 cities across Canada. Banksy, a pop culture icon himself, describes Adam performances as the equivalent of a “paramedic performing gag resuscitation on the roadside.” The stand-up artist has written three series of The Problem with Adam Bloom, for BBC Radio 4, and had made appearances on The Stand Up Show, Channel 4’s Comedy Lab and Comedy Central’s Comedy World Tour and The World Stands Up. James Acaster James began his professional career in 2008 and since then firmly established himself as one of the most popular young comedians in Britain. His performances are a cheery mix of low key whimsical routines, trivial stories and the odd bit of audience interaction. In 2010, James won Off The Kerb’s ‘Laughing Boy New Act’ of the year and, the following month, performed to over 4,000 people. The same year he finished a national tour supporting Josie Long playing to audiences up to 400 people. James even supported Milton Jones on his national tour, performing to an audience of over 100,000 people across the UK. He performed his first solo show, Amongst Other Things, at the Edinburgh Festival, receiving a number of rave reviews. He has recently recorded his own pilot for BBC Radio 4, James Acaster’s Findings, where he presents the results of his in-depth research into the subject of bread. Silky A comedian for almost half of his life, Silky started out in 1994 with shows such as New Comedy Awards, The World Stands Up and the Comics Lounge for AUS. His portfolio of work include several performances across the UK, China, Kuwait, UAE, Singapore, the US, the Philippines, Kosovo, the Falkland Islands, the Melbourne Comedy Festival and all over Europe. He is also the brain behind the ‘Kill for a Seat Comedy’ clubs across the UK and has performed with the MEN at Work satirical team, the Grand Theft Impro, Dublin Comedy Improv and Monkey Lab Improv teams. You can catch them in action on January 29 at the Bahrain Rugby Club, the British Club on the 30th and Intercontinental Regency Bahrain on the 31st. E Call 36 663-509.
