Bahrain This Month rounds up a few of the top tournaments and events of the season. The Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF) never disappoints when it comes to their show jumping agenda. This year, the highly anticipated Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Championship will kick start on January 11, bringing in horse riders from around the region. The Khalid Bin Hamad Horse Racing Festival is another staple in the county’s equestrian calendar. Now in its third year, the Special Needs Cup is designed to give Bahrain’s riders a platform to hone and showcase their skills in the sport. It doesn’t stop there though; the annual BREEF Show Jumping Championship and the prestigious Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Championship are set to be held on February 5 and 15, respectively. In full swing The Bahrain Tennis Club (BTC) is always on top of their game and this month is no different. BTC will host the second EK Kanoo Junior Tennis Championship from January 5-29, an event that is gaining momentum amongst tennis fanatics in the Kingdom. The Bahrain Goans 11-a-side Challenge Cup is another tournament to watch out for. Playing ball With the finals being held on January 10 at the Al Qadisiya Grounds, the football series will see teams like Kerala United and Bahrain Goans go head to head for the title. Another highly competitive tournament is the Bahrain Expat Football League, which has just entered its sixth season. Eleven teams will fight for the top spot with exciting fixtures held throughout January. One of the most anticipated sporting fixtures of the month is the start of His Majesty the King’s Cup. The preliminary rounds start on January 9 with Al Tadhamum and Al Ittihad being the first game of the season.
