Artistic freedom is given to children to express themselves through their designs and garments. The centre is located in North Sehla. Classes begin in the first week of January. E Call 17180-343. Beckoning the young and curious minds of the Kingdom, this interactive event promises a number of educative exercises delivered in a fun and engaging way. An institution that almost serves as a window to Britain’s high standards of education and learning practices, The British Council Bahrain is organising a special knowledge event for kids during The Great British week. Aimed at children aged seven to 14, the programme runs as an extension of the higher education event that will be hosted earlier this month. The event demonstrates British innovation to the younger generation in Bahrain in a way that is fun and engaging. It brings together various strands of the British Council’s work with young people and schools in Bahrain, such as the Kids’ Read Programme, arts projects, and their expertise in learning and education. The programme is being held at Bahrain Science Centre, a popular venue where learning meets fun. It has a record of hosting great events for young people and adults, on their own and in partnership with other organisations. The Kids Knowledge Event runs over two days. The first day is for the benefit of over 1,500 students enrolled at British Council’s Teaching Centre. The second day, January 24, is open to the public from 3pm-9pm. There are a host of fun activities for kids, including a knowledge treasure hunt, storytelling and a photo gallery of British innovation. Outside the centre there will be the Big Red Bus, a double-decker London bus turned into a reading centre for kids, an activity tent, pottery studio and a café. “We are really excited to have the Big Red Bus, which has been brought from the UK for the Great British Week. For our Kids Read Programme, we have a little red bus that we use as a library. So this is our chance to have a giant version,” says Emily Sawle Thomas, deputy teaching manager at British Council. Kids can get on the bus and choose books to read, go up to the top deck to look at the books they have chosen, and then come to the activity centre for some ‘make-and-do’ activities. Mark of British Excellence The British Council is dedicated to creating cultural synergies between the people of the UK and other countries. Represented across six continents in over a 100 countries, it works with millions of people each year, connecting them with the United Kingdom, sharing its cultures, language, arts and education. The council’s work has helped people worldwide to learn about and experience creativity and excellence from the UK. Millions of talented people of all ages, particularly younger people are given a chance to engage face-to-face and online in order to learn English, develop new skills, and study in British institutions.
