34 January 2014 www.bahrainthismonth.com happeningsartsculture An event that has helped develop Bahrain’s art scene is back again for another edition playing host to some of the most well known artists on the island. Al Aali Shopping Complex is set to kick off 2014 on a high note with one of its most anticipated annual events. Gathering creative minds from across the island under one roof, the Al Aali Art Fest has become a staple in the calendars of art enthusiasts of different genres. Now in its third year, the line-up of participants features both renowned and aspiring young artists. The artworks on display include all kinds of art forms from various mediums such as painting, sculpting, fashion design, music, photography, calligraphy and pottery. With an aim to create an open platform for Bahraini talent, the shopping complex is transformed into a living gallery, set to inspire, captivate and enthral its visitors. Works by over 100 artists will be showcased under three main categories — art, music and fashion. All artworks will be on sale to the public. Organisers hope to raise funds through the sale of pieces by donating 20 per cent of the proceeds to a number of charitable causes in the country. Keeping budding artists of all ages in mind, schools will have an opportunity to showcase their talent too. Drawing boards featuring art created by students and teachers of some of Bahrain’s leading educational institutions will be on display. Racing fanatics are also in for a treat this year with the unveiling of a fully decorated Formula One car sculpture. In another effort to inspire creative young minds, various workshops will be held throughout the four days by renowned artists. The experts will provide guidance and impart techniques to help budding artists in their pursuit of mastering their craft. There will also be plenty of entertainment for the entire family through live caricatures, cartooning, on-the-spot pottery making, henna designing and live music. The event will set the stage for anamorphic painting displays by Guinness World Record holder Limnesh & Group. To get some friendly competition flowing amongst the younger generation, an open photography contest on the subject ‘Al Aali Shopping Complex’ will be held. So, whether you are looking to get your name out there as the next big thing or just want to take in and enjoy the nation’s brightest artists, don’t miss this unique cultural affair.
