34 February 2018 www.bahrainthismonth.com afterdark happenings Ky-Mani Marley, son of the legendary singer, makes his first visit to our shores for a concert celebrating late reggae icon’s 73rd birthday. Ky-Mani, whose name means traveller, is himself a Grammy-nominated reggae and hip-hop star who has recorded with some of the best in the business. He has an eclectic body of work that covers multiple genres and includes film and video appearances. As a teenager, Ky-Mani started rapping and deejaying; his first single was Unnecessary Badness. He became inspired as a singer after being asked to sing a hook to a song during a recording session at a studio in Miami. Ky-Mani signed to Shang Records, where he recorded his debut album in 1996 titled Like Father Like Son, and several singles including Dear Dad, which topped the British reggae charts. In 1997, he joined forces with Pras of The Fugees on a hit cover of Eddy Grant’s Electric Avenue and he has been active in the music industry ever since. At his Bahrain appearance he’ll be performing with Konfrontation Band, with support from DJ Teddy Jam, DJ Riddle and DJ Kofi Wisky. February 8 - Italian Carnival with DJ Nicola Fasano - Olivetto This Italian spinner is known as the Prince’s DJ as he’s invited to play at all the VIP parties in Monaco. Join him for a night of masquerade carnival at one of the Kingdom’s favourite Italian eateries and expect top-notch entertainment and cool vibes with great food to boot. The Tax Dodgers are the go-to band for classic rock and blues in Bahrain. They performed at the Bahrain Gaelic Games Festival supporting internationally acclaimed U2 tribute band, ZU2 and are known around the island for their great fun sets.
