The festival’s kick-off date coincides with Arab Tourism Day, which was adopted when Manama was the Capital of Arab Tourism in 2013 and commemorates the anniversary of the birth of the famous Arab traveller Ibn Battuta. Bahrain’s unique cultural and historical sites form the perfect backdrop for various vibrant and exciting activities featuring local, regional and international talents from song, music and theatre to art and much more. These diverse events include lectures, workshops, exhibitions and concerts. This year’s festival launches with the Epic of Gilgamesh, a musical concerty by Abed Azrieh, at Bahrain National Theatre. Formed in Birmingham, UK, home of the original band, the members of this six-piece tribute have been playing together since 1998, taking to the stage to perform up to 90 minutes of pulsating reggae hits spanning more than 25 years making them the world’s number one UB40 tribute. From early hits such as King and Food For Thought through to some of UB40’s most recent work combined with some footstomping 80s’ ska, Rats In The Kitchen provide a great live show that draws in audiences of all ages and they’ll be entertaining the brunch crowd at this popular pub with a selection of feel-good tunes guaranteed to get everyone dancing. There are 3km and 5km runs and a 4km walking route and anyone can take part. Kids aged six and above are welcome to join the walking route. Youngsters from the age of nine can take part in the 3km run; and the 5km route is for those from 13 years through to adults. There will be prizes in each section and age group. Call 39 132-102.
