Bahrain This Month - February 2016

30 February 2016 www.bahrainthismonth.com happenings A reading bug starts with a good book. The Words Bookstore Café aims to do just that as it launches its first Young Adult Book Club of 2016 on February 13. The pick of the month is the multiple awardwinning, phenomenal bestseller from Mark Haddon, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. A murder mystery novel like no other, it follows detective and narrator Christopher Boone, who is 15 and has Asperger’s Syndrome. He knows a great deal about maths but very little about human beings. He loves lists, patterns and the truth. He hates the colours yellow and brown and being touched. He has never gone further than the end of the road on his own but when he finds a neighbour’s dog murdered, he sets out on a terrifying journey which will turn his whole world upside down. The book club is open to all teens, free of charge and starts at midday. To join, email [email protected] with your name and mobile number. Call 17 690-790. A fantastic opportunity for youth comes in the form of the Junior World Entrepreneurship Forum (JWEF), which will take place at The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa on February 16 and at the Applied Science University on January 17. Held under the patronage of HE Zayed R Alzayani, Minister of Industry, Commerce & Tourism, the event is being organised by Origin Group in Bahrain and the GCC for the first time. Founded in France, the JWEF is a derivative event of the World Entrepreneurship Forum. It was created in order to promote and accelerate junior entrepreneurship globally. The goal is to educate youth and promote private enterprise as a career opportunity in Bahrain. The two-day event will see local entrepreneurs, industry experts, government officials and academics sharing their experiences. Participants will be exposed to inspiring speakers, will get an opportunity to learn and interact in creative workshops and have the chance to pitch their innovative commercial ideas to a qualified jury. Call 17 552-878, email [email protected] or follow Instagram and Twitter @JWEF_BH. READING DELIGHT FOR TEENS PROMOTING ENTREPRENEURSHIP Have a whale of a time tapping into your investigative skills and help a charitable cause as the Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals holds a murder mystery dinner themed Murder in the Thirties. The event will take place at The British Club’s Ascot Room on February 18 at 7.30pm. It’s Roseville 1931 and the question on everyone’s minds is who shot Sam Shady, private eye to the stars? So, gather your friends, play your part and help solve the murder. There are prizes in the Whodunit Draw and for the best costume. Tickets priced, at BD12 per head for tables of eight, include a three-course meal and refreshments, available at the club and the BSPCA Thrift Shop.
