98 February 2016 www.bahrainthismonth.com diningvalentine’sday This landmark hotel knows that men are from Mars and women are from Venus and has adapted its Valentine’s Day menu to match. Dining outlets on the island are gearing up for Valentine’s Day; planning their courses and pairing them with the appropriate beverage. But Mondo, the Italian restaurant at The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa has taken personalised service to a new level. Nowhere else on the island will you be able to find one set menu for men and a different one, more attuned to their tastes, for ladies. Director of food and drink, Petr Dubsky, spills the beans on this novel concept. “Each of the dishes on the five-course menu will be different for men and women at Mondo on Valentine’s Day,” he says. “For instance, meat will star on the main course for the gentlemen and a vegetarian preparation will be served to please the palates of the ladies.” However, the restaurant is very flexible with its guests’ requirements and will be happy to serve men vegetarian fare as well. “If the lady fancies the man’s dish, we will happily serve it to her,” says Petr. A glorious evening in the cozy quarters of Mondo is not complete without something to satiate the sweet tooth and, once again, the restaurant has something different in store for men and women. “The dessert for the ladies, will be a rich panna cotta, with a couple of additions to it; I cannot give away the secret right now,” Petr says with a twinkle in his eye. The men are in for a surprise as well; a decadent chocolate mousse that will have a hint of chilli in the aftertaste. “But again, if the couple wants to swap their desserts, we will be glad to oblige,” he says. Executive chef Vito Fornelli has painstakingly planned the menu for the occasion with a mélange of locally sourced ingredients. The doors at Mondo open from 5pm to 11pm on February 12, 13 and 14, so that those who want to call it a day early, can easily do so. Rest assured that romance is surely going to be in the air, with red flowers, candles and hearts being the theme of the evening. This special menu costs BD26 per person, including the five courses, a glass of bubbly, flowers for ladies and a keepsake. Call 17 531-666.
