40 February 2012 BTM happeningskidsteens You might know their story inside out, but that won’t stop you from catching yet another play about the legendary couple, especially when it is performed by Shakespeare 4 Kidz. A favourite of children and adults alike, Shakespeare4Kidz (S4K) are on tour again, visiting Bahrain in February with the perfect performance for the month that celebrates true love — Romeo and Juliet. When it comes to making the bard’s plays appealing for children, the theatre group is in a class of its own. It has introduced millions of young people to the magical world of Shakespeare over the last 15 years. Kids love them because they can understand them. The complicated stories and complex text are simplified by the use of modern language linking together the most famous and best-loved lines. And there are catchy songs and dances to top it all. Adults are equally enchanted because they are simply a five-star theatrical musical production. The production will feature many of its popular cast and be directed by its co-writer and founder, Julian Chenery. The team consists of 20 talented professional actors/singers who will give you a magical live performance. It’s been retold in countless ways, but never in the exuberant child-friendly way which they promise. Love and hate, laughter and tears, politics and religion, power and passion — this show has got them all, and in a way everyone can relate to. S4K are experts at putting the play’s message across with its unique balance of comedy and poignancy although all the original ingredients are retained. Pick up tickets at Havajava (Manazel), Trousseau (Aali Complex), Razmatazz (Budaiya) or Al Osra (Saar).
