46 December 2011 BTM happeningssportsrecreation It’s that time of the year again when everyone in Bahrain is invited to enter the Bahrain Marathon Relay. The annual sporting event is always a great success and raises large amounts of money for various charitable causes both across Bahrain and internationally. Last year, the event raised an astonishing BD30,000 for local charities. The race is designed with 16 legs of three kilometres and starts and finishes at the Bahrain International Circuit. It is open for both keen runners and anybody willing to give it a go, as each stretch isn’t very far. The top 20 teams are made up of serious runners and the top ten teams are inclusive of international runners. However, the majority of teams enter for the dual result of raising money for needy causes and having fun. The relay is once again being organised by the Bahrain Round Table Society, who exist for the main purpose of giving back to the community with fund-raising events such as this one. The money raised from this year’s marathon will go to charities including the Downs Syndrome Society, Isa Town Charity Fund and the Fellowship Society for the Blind. Now the weather is beautifully cool, it’s a lovely day for a fun-filled team race or just to enjoy cheering on all of the participants. So, either get registered and get running or sponsor someone running and head along on the day to support them. E Visit www.brt1.net. Go Team! When? December 9 | Event?
