Indian School Auditorium Seasonal Affair The Bahrain Music Institute’s annual concert is always a great way to spend an evening, for anyone who with a love for music and this year, the event is tipped to showcase a wide variety of both music and talent. Aside from their classical and seasonal performances, visitors can expect to hear pop, jazz, Latin and Arabic music. The line-up includes performances from students, teachers and a combination of both with an aim to provide a platform for the musicians to share the music that they love. Bahrain Music Institute Artistic Script Well known Bahraini artist Abbas Yousif will be showcasing his latest works this month for all to view. Abbas usually uses a number of mixed media for his exhibitions, but this time he has opted for acrylic and printing oil along with a collage of papers and fabrics. No specific subject was set for the artworks; instead the pieces freely reflect the beauty of the Arabic script combined with vivid colours at their best, aesthetically pleasing, form. Abbas is a prolific artist, but recognises the talent of upcoming artists also, “There is an increasingly enlarging generation of artists in Bahrain, each with distinct vitality and dedication. I aim to encourage all of these artists to continue developing their experiences to build Bahrain’s artistic scene,” he says. E Call 17 590-551. When? December 26 – January 4 | Event? Exhibition | Venue? Bahrain Arts Society Charitable Notes A music fund-raiser is being held to support the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation (BSSF). The Melodic Meet 2011 will feature a number of well-known Indian stars, including popular playback singer Kalpana Ragahvendra, famous south Indian singer Franco and disability dancer Paul Pandian. Kalpana, who is the daughter of famed Indian actor, T. S. Raghvendar. “With this music show we hope to raise sufficient funds to use for the various disabled sports activities in and around the region,” says BDSF general secretary Mohammad Nammi.
