bahrainthismonth.com | AUGUST 2026 FOOD REVIEW 40 Amna Syed visits Rasoi at Gulf Hotel Bahrain, where a warm welcome is only the beginning of an Indian dining experience that leaves a lasting impression. Indian cuisine is renowned for its diversity, bringing together regional flavours, timehonoured recipes and vibrant street food traditions. At Rasoi, Gulf Hotel Bahrain, that variety is reflected in a menu that ranges from street food favourites to rich, comforting classics. From the moment guests arrive, Rasoi offers an intimate setting where dim lighting and traditionally carved Indian furniture create a warm, romantic atmosphere. The carefully chosen interiors complement the menu, creating a setting that feels as authentic as the cuisine itself. Before we had even opened the menu, the evening was off to a memorable start. Complimentary crispy fritters, comforting lentil soup and freshly made papadom arrived with sweet mango chilli, beetroot pachadi and mint coriander chutneys, setting the tone for the generous hospitality that followed. The first courses celebrated the colour and vibrancy of Indian street food. Gulab Puri Chaat delivered crisp textures with sweet, tangy and savoury flavours in every bite, while the Samosa Chaat balanced crisp pastry, yoghurt and chutneys to create a dish that was both familiar and full of character. Fresh from the tandoor, the grills were equally satisfying. The Lamb Seekh Kebab was beautifully seasoned and smoky, the Chicken Malai was tender with a rich, creamy finish and the Punjabi Chicken Tikka arrived perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The main courses continued with a selection of rich, comforting classics. The Lamb Shank Rogan Josh fell effortlessly from the bone, its aromatic gravy pairing beautifully with buttery Garlic Naan. The creamy Dal Makhni delivered everything you could want from a comforting dish, while Rasoi’s famous Butter Chicken proved exactly why it remains one of the restaurant’s signature dishes. Silky, perfectly balanced and deeply satisfying, it more than lived up to its reputation. The Shrimp Biryani was equally memorable. Fragrant rice, succulent prawns and beautifully layered spices came together in a dish that was both comforting and full of flavour, bringing the savoury courses to a satisfying close. The drinks brought their own personality to the table. Lady Lavender was elegant and refreshing, the Rose Mojito offered a fragrant twist on a favourite and the Ginger Coriander Lemonade provided a bright finish that complemented the richness of the meal. Dessert was a fitting finale. The Mango Terrine combined creamy kulfi with fresh mango sauce before revealing a hidden gulab jamun at its centre, while the Rose Cake Rabdi was silky, delicately floral and balanced with just the right amount of sweetness. Behind the menu is Head Chef Tej Thapa and his talented team, whose passion is reflected throughout the meal.
