bahrainthismonth.com | AUGUST 2026 INDIA IN BAHRAIN 25 Driving Mobility Forward Group Business Development Manager at AlHaddad Group, Gowtham Sarma, discusses his career in Bahrain, the growth of flexible mobility, AVIS Bahrain’s priorities and the contribution of Indian professionals to the Kingdom’s economy. Little did he know at the time, but Bahrain has proved to be far more than a career stop for Mr. Sarma. Presently, he credits the Kingdom’s inclusive culture, quality of life and professional opportunities “That encouraged him” to build a long-term future here. He is quick to acknowledge the people who supported his journey. “I was fortunate to have senior leaders who trusted me and gave me the space to grow,” he says. Mr. Sarma’s career in Bahrain’s automotive sector began in finance, where he worked as head of finance before transitioning into business development. Since 2011, his focus has been on identifying and introducing new brands into the group’s portfolio. Looking back, he keeps his philosophy simple: “If one does his job with dedication and commitment, growth will come automatically.” Changing Mobility Needs AVIS Bahrain, part of his portfolio, has given Mr. Sarma a front-row view of how mobility expectations are evolving in the Kingdom. He believes the shift away from ownership towards leasing and rental models is accelerating. “The mindset is changing,” he explains. “People no longer want the burden of ownership. They want flexibility, convenience and freedom.” He notes that this shift benefits both individuals and businesses. “Customers want access, not responsibility,” he says. “And companies want mobility solutions that can scale with their needs.” For Mr. Sarma, this is not a passing trend but a structural change in the market. “This is the future of mobility,” he says. “And in that future, service quality will matter more than anything else.” That belief is central to his approach at AVIS Bahrain. “Brand alone is not enough anymore,” he says. “What will differentiate us is how we treat customers, how quickly we respond, and how consistently we deliver.” He also sees mobility playing a wider regional role, particularly in strengthening ties between Bahrain and India. “We already see strong movement between the two countries,” he notes. “With AVIS operating in India as well, we are in a unique position to support travellers in both directions.” Bahrain’s growing appeal as a destination is also part of this equation. “We are seeing more Indian weddings, corporate events and conferences being hosted here,” he says. “Bahrain is accessible, efficient and costeffective, and that gives it a real advantage.” A Land of Opportunity Mr. Sarma speaks with admiration about the Indian community in Bahrain, which he believes has played a vital role in the Kingdom’s development. “Indian professionals have always adapted well here,” he says. “They respect the culture, they work hard, and they contribute across every sector.” From medicine to business leadership, he sees their success as evidence of Bahrain’s openness. “This is a country where talent is recognised,” he says. “If you are committed, there is always room to grow.” For younger professionals, his advice is centred on patience and discipline. “Don’t rush for quick results,” he says. “Focus on your domain, build your expertise, and the opportunities will come.” He adds a final reflection that mirrors his own journey: “One day you will realise you have mastered your field, and by then, opportunities will naturally find you.” For Mr. Sarma, that belief remains central to everything he does; steady effort, long-term thinking and trust in the process of growth.
