Balasubramanyam reflects on strengthening Bahrain-India relations, Bahrain’s evolving business landscape and the role BIS continues to play in connecting the two nations. Since its establishment in 2008, the Bahrain India Society has become an important platform for bringing people, businesses and institutions from Bahrain and India closer together. Mr. Balasubramanyam has been part of that journey from the beginning, serving as a Committee Member and Treasurer before becoming Vice Chairman. “The fundamental objective of BIS has always been to forge closer ties of friendship and understanding between the people of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of India,” he states. “The Society aims to promote cooperation between the two countries in economic, cultural, educational, professional, scientific and social fields.” That vision is delivered through regular programmes, institutional partnerships and business delegations. A visit to Hyderabad and Bengaluru in 2025 gave members the opportunity to engage with government officials, technology leaders and business organisations while exploring new areas of cooperation. “Today, BIS has grown into a respected bilateral professional and business platform that brings together businesses, professionals, institutions and communities from both countries,” he notes. “The Society continues to serve as a bridge that strengthens friendship, promotes collaboration and creates business networking opportunities between the people of Bahrain and India.” For Mr. Balasubramanyam, the Society’s greatest strength lies in the relationships it helps create between professionals, entrepreneurs and organisations. “The true value of BIS is not only in the programmes we organise but in the connections we create, the knowledge we share and the opportunities we help develop for our members,” he says. Having practised as a Chartered Accountant in Bahrain for more than two decades, Mr. Balasubramanyam has watched the Kingdom’s professional landscape evolve alongside its economy. He also served as Chairman of the Bahrain Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India from 2008 to 2009. He believes Bahrain’s regulatory environment has strengthened confidence among businesses, while the role of professionals has expanded well beyond traditional disciplines. “The most important requirement today is continuous learning and reinvention,” he observes. “Professionals who continuously upgrade their skills and adapt to change will remain successful.” He believes the same mindset applies to organisations. As artificial intelligence, automation and data analytics reshape industries, businesses that embrace innovation while using technology strategically will be best placed to succeed. “The greatest opportunities lie in using technology to improve efficiency, enhance customer experience and make better strategic decisions,” he explains. “Technology should be viewed as an opportunity for growth and innovation rather than simply a tool for automation.” Looking ahead, Mr. Balasubramanyam believes Bahrain’s open economy, strategic location, skilled workforce and strong relationship with India position the Kingdom for continued growth. Through BIS, he hopes to expand business delegations and partnerships, encourage more Indian companies to consider Bahrain as a regional base and continue creating opportunities for collaboration between the two nations.
