bahrainthismonth.com | AUGUST 2025 HOSPITALITY 76 Medical Visionary Leadership Kristian Harrison spoke with Dr. Amer Alderazi, President of the Bahrain Medical Society (BMS) and Group Head of Medical Affairs at Al Hilal Healthcare Group, about his leadership, Bahrain’s healthcare sector and his passion for patient care. Dr. Alderazi’s career is deeply rooted in a desire to transform lives. “From the very beginning, I was drawn to surgery for its precision and its power to change outcomes dramatically,” he explains. “Over time, I chose to specialise in bariatric and metabolic surgery because I saw first-hand how obesity impacts every dimension of a person’s life.” Alongside his surgical practice, he has held leadership roles, including CEO of Middle East Hospital, and now oversees two hospitals and eight multi-specialty centres at Al Hilal Healthcare Group. As BMS President, his primary goal is to create an environment where every doctor in Bahrain feels empowered, supported and valued. When doctors thrive, patients benefit and the entire healthcare system becomes stronger, he believes. Dr. Alderazi emphasises professional development, research and giving Bahraini doctors a greater voice in shaping health policy, while also forging international collaborations to ensure Bahrain remains a leader in medical innovation. Discussing the nation’s health challenges, he notes: “Like many nations, Bahrain faces the dual challenge of managing chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity and heart conditions while also addressing emerging concerns like mental health. BMS is taking a proactive approach through awareness campaigns, early detection programmes and advocacy for preventive care.” He highlights close collaboration with the Supreme Council of Health and private institutions to foster healthier lifestyles and integrate mental health into mainstream care. The Society’s role extends to supporting healthcare professionals. “Our frontline healthcare workers are heroes, and supporting them is a responsibility we take to heart,” he asserts. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, we worked tirelessly to ensure doctors had protective equipment, mental health resources and professional guidance. Even now, we continue to advocate for better working conditions and ongoing education.” Looking forward, he sees technology reshaping healthcare delivery. “One of our priorities is advancing digital health and telemedicine, making healthcare more accessible and patientcentred,” he says. “We will also advocate for safe and effective integration of AI, from diagnostics to predictive analytics, while keeping compassion at the core of care.” Despite his demanding schedule, Dr. Alderazi remains deeply connected to his patients. “My week is a blend of performing surgeries while also leading hospital operations and representing doctors nationally and internationally,” he explains. “What drives me is knowing that every decision I make has the potential to improve someone’s life. “Healthcare is of course treating illness, but it is also about inspiring hope, building trust and shaping a healthier future. Together, we can make Bahrain a regional beacon for healthcare innovation and patient-centred care. The future of medicine is bright, and we are ready to lead it.”
