INDIA IN BAHRAIN bahrainthismonth.com | AUGUST 2025 53 A Beacon of Gastronomy Shruti Ramesh takes us on a vibrant culinary journey to Lanterns, one of the Kingdom’s standout Indian restaurants, where flavour, hospitality and atmosphere come together for a truly memorable experience. Our Menu Picks Nestled in the bustling heart of Adliya, Lanterns offers a delightful escape into the rich flavours and warmth of Indian cuisine. This cosy restaurant feels like fine dining from the comfort of home. Soft lighting, intricately detailed wooden furniture, charming jhullas (swings) and vibrant cultural artwork come together to create an inviting atmosphere that sets the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. At the door, we were welcomed by attentive staff who made us feel cared for before we even got to our table. The restaurant’s manager, Anwar, personally checked in on us multiple times and offered us our choice of soft beverages. To kick off our meal, we indulged in a selection of starters that were as visually appealing as they were delicious. The Maharaja Royal Salad was a crunchy, balanced delight, consisting of a colourful medley of fresh greens, olives, feta and pomegranate drizzled with a homemade balsamic dressing. The Tandoori Mushroom was light, flavourful and savoury, with a creamy spinach-and-cheese filling that provided a comforting balance to the dish, an ideal choice for those who prefer milder flavours. The Black Pepper Tikka, featuring succulent chicken thighs coated in crushed black pepper, was cooked to perfection. Served sizzling on a hot plate, the aroma was captivating. Each bite was tender and moist, and the accompanying mint chutney added a refreshing twist. A squeeze of lemon provided an acidic kick that truly elevated the dish. The Spiced Lamb Chops were the unanimous star of the starter course. Charred to perfection and generously seasoned with hot Indian spices, these chops were a revelation. Each bite was spicy, smoky and savoury, an attack on the senses in the best way. The accompanying French fries were crisp and fresh, making this dish an absolute highlight. The main course presented us with two stunning curries served in authentic brass pots. The Chicken Makhani (Butter Chicken), featuring boneless tandoori chicken in a rich tomato sauce, was mild and buttery with a perfect balance of sweet and savoury notes. However, it was the Lamb Rogan Josh that stole the show. Aromatic and visually stunning, the lamb practically melted in our mouths. The deep brown gravy was a complex blend of spices, consisting of notes that ranged from spicy to umami to sweet, taking us on a gastronomic journey of the palate. To complement these dishes, the butter naan was piping hot and irresistibly flaky. Overall, Lanterns exceeded our already lofty expectations.
