Bahrain This Month - August 2021

August 2021 37 www.bahrainthismonth.com The Land Cruiser has become a household name in the region, evoking a sense of rugged reliability that is unique to Toyota. This reputation is based on 70 years of production with various model lines and variations. The Land Cruiser is the longest-continuously running nameplate in Toyota’s history and has sold more than 10 million units around the world. Beginning its journey in 1951, The Toyota Jeep BJ as it was initially known, was born out of the necessity to tackle different terrains across the globe. The vehicle was tested by tackling technological feats that had only previously been possible on horseback, replicating a samurai warrior’s legendary climb to the Shinto temple at the top of Mount Atago, and driving up the old pilgrim route to the sixth station on Mount Fuji. Ebrahim K. Kanoo, the sole distributor of Toyota vehicles in Bahrain, first launched the Land Cruiser here in 1967. Since then, it has earned legendary status within the four-wheel drive sector, consistently setting the benchmark for durability, ruggedness, reliability and flexibility. THE JOURNEY TO CARBON NEUTRALITY Porsche rounds off the Cayenne model range with a new sporting hero: consistently set up for maximum performance and handling, the new Cayenne Turbo GT combines outstanding driving dynamics with a high degree of everyday usability. Its 640 PS (471 kW) four-litre biturbo V8 provides the basis for superb driving characteristics. With 90 PS (67 kW) more than the Cayenne Turbo Coupé and maximum torque of 850 Nm (an increase of 80 Nm), the 0-100 km/h sprint is reduced to 3.3 seconds (0.6 s less) and top speed is now 300 km/h (an increase of 14 km/h). With even sportier lines and available exclusively as a four-seater Coupé, the Cayenne Turbo GT comes with all available chassis systems fitted as standard and performance tyres developed specially for this model. The powertrain and chassis also have a unique set-up specifically tuned for the Cayenne Turbo GT. The result is a harmonious overall concept with superb racetrack capability. A NEW SPORTING HERO Nissan has unveiled the Nissan EV36Zero, a £1 billion flagship Electric Vehicle (EV) Hub creating a first-of-its-kind EV manufacturing ecosystem which will supercharge the company’s drive to carbon neutrality and establish a new 360-degree solution for zero-emission motoring. The transformational project has been launched with an initial £1bn investment by Nissan and its partners Envision AESC, a global player in world-leading battery technology, and Sunderland City Council. Comprised of three interconnected initiatives, Nissan EV36Zero brings together electric vehicles, renewable energy and battery production, setting a blueprint for the future of the automotive industry. Further, as part of the investment, Nissan will invest up to £423 million to produce a new-generation all-electric vehicle in the UK. Building on Nissan’s expertise in crossovers and the worldwide success of the Nissan LEAF, it promises nextgeneration vehicle styling, efficiency and battery technology, making the switch to electric driving even more accessible. Designed for global markets, UK production will be exported to the European markets traditionally served by Nissan’s Sunderland plant. The new crossover will be built on the Alliance CMF-EV platform, with a forecasted production capacity of up to 100,000 units to be installed. THE LEGEND THAT CHANGED THE WORLD motoring news
