Eastward Expansion Bahrain’s national carrier, Gulf Air, was recently awarded as the Fastest Growing Airline in the Middle East region at the 19th Airline Marketing Workshop organised by Athens International Airport in the Greek capital. The airline’s COO, Vincent Coste, says: “This is a great achievement for Gulf Air to be awarded as the fastest growing airline in the Middle East region by the authorities in Athens International Airport. Athens is one of our important European destinations and the route sees steady growth rates year on year. The upcoming summer season will see increased flights to and from Athens as it is a popular route for many of our passengers. We thank the organising committee of this event for recognising the hard work for the airline and we will always work hand in hand to further strengthen our position in the Greek market”. Airline’s Growth Recognised The Middle East’s largest Chinese trade show, China Machinery Fair, will be held jointly with the Gulf Industry Fair 2019 (GIF) following a partnership agreement between Hilal Conferences and Exhibitions (HCE), which organises GIF, and Silk Road Steps to Eco-Culture Committee secretary general Zhang Ming. The shows will be held from September 24-26 under the patronage of HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. HCE managing director Jubran Abdulrahman says: “The China Machinery Fair is a part of the Belt and Road policy of China which is looking to build on China’s historical trade corridor with the Middle East. Visitors will be able to view products of over 100 Chinese companies specialising in heavy machinery and industrial machinery and applications.” Participants are expected from Germany, Italy, US, India, Turkey, Pakistan and Japan. Chinese Partner for Gulf Industry Fair The American University of Bahrain (AUBH), the first purpose-built American university in the Kingdom, is set to open its doors in September 2019; promising a fresh new approach in programme delivery and infrastructure development, significantly changing the landscape of higher education in the country. Built on a 75,000sq/m plot in Riffa, the campus is designed by the US-based global architects Ayers Saint Gross (ASG), who have created a number of renowned US university campuses. It will feature modern classrooms and labs, as well as a state-of-the-art auditorium, student commons and athletic facilities. AUBH has received institutional approval by the Higher Education Council (HEC) of the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Bahrain and plans to launch its schools of Engineering, Architecture and Design, and Business in the 2019-2020 academic year.
