42 April 2016 www.bahrainthismonth.com happenings The Rotary Club of Sulmaniya is preparing for the 2016 Raft Race, which is its major annual fund-raiser. Teams of eight compete against each other, with ladies and mixed teams racing on the lagoon and men in the open sea. The whole day is aimed at having fun and winning for charity. This year’s winner will be the fight against Diabetes, for which Bahrain has the world’s fifth highest incidence. Funds raised at the event will go to benefit those suffering from the disease and to help fund research. The Rotary Raft Race is expected to attract up to 40 different teams and entry costs BD375 per boat. The event, which will include stalls and entertainment, promises to be a fun day out for the whole family. Sponsorship is also available to both the corporate sector and private individuals, with the funds destined to be used for the same charitable effort. Trib Fest returns to the island on April 15 at the Rugby Club, featuring a fantastic line-up of superb international and local artists. The Main Event Stage will host all 21 tribute artists from the UK, including Amy Whinehouse, Taylor Swift, Neil Daimond, Jesse J, Meat Loaf, Tina Turner, Pink, Tom Jones, Stereophonics, Lady Gaga, Rod Stewart, Oasis, Toadi, Rolling Stones, SNOG - Glam Rock tribute, True Brit and Blues Brothers, to name a few. The I Love Local Stage will host Western expat and local musical talent, with local bands playing a small set on the main stage in between the tribute acts. There will also be various other attractions throughout the day. With large crowds expected and limited numbers, it is advisable to buy tickets in advance. Park & Ride service is also available. Timings are from 10am to 10pm. Call 34 552-161. The Drama Section of the British Club will be running monthly theatre workshops for children and teenagers aged seven to 14 years. This month’s workshop will be held on April 16 at the Windsor Room in the British Club. Each workshop is stand alone and includes a performance, encouraging children to be creative and confident, as well as have fun seeing ideas come to life. The workshop timings are 3pm-5.30pm. Each two-and-a-half-hour workshop will look at a different aspect of theatre and will end with a 15-minute performance, which begins at 5.15pm.
