Bahrain Fort Museum and City Centre Bahrain, Entrance 1 The Red Bull Music Academy and the Bahrain Authority of Culture & Antiquities collaborate in honour of the late Majeed Marhoon; bringing to audiences Symphonies of the Self, a combined eclectic concert with a documentary film. Marhoon’s compositions will be played by the Bahrain Orchestra, along with electronic reinterpretations of Marhoon’s works, performed by Henrik Schwarz, Bugge Wesseltoft, Hasan Hujairi and Esam “Cosmo” Hammad. The documentary, Symphonies of the Self, will premiere at the concert to narrate to audiences the process of the musical collaborations, as inspired by the nostalgia of Marhoon’s life and journey as a musician. The documentary is directed by award-winning Bahraini director Saleh Nass. The event starts at 6.30 pm. The minimum age requirement is 16 years. Visit www.culture.gov.bh. The Dar Al Muharraq project comprises the transformation of the existing Dar Jinaa in the old city of Muharraq as well as an extension on a neighbouring plot, which will accommodate workshop and training areas. The Dar Al Muharraq will act as a training and research centre for traditional folk music and will enhance the intangible heritage of Muharraq. Situated along the pearling route, testimony of the island’s economy, the extension is a threestorey building enveloped with a steel mesh, designed by Office Kersten Geers David Van Severen in collaboration with Emaar. A storytelling and book signing session with awardwinning Arabic children’s books writer Fatima Sharafeddine. She will be accompanied on the first day by artist Hussam Abed, who will perform a creative shadow theatre show of one of her stories, and on the second day by a children’s puppeteer.
