Bahrain This Month - April 2016

April 2016 183 www.bahrainthismonth.com While spring is typically punctuated with barely there makeup and low-touch hairstyles, this season, things actually have a bit more interesting. The colours are brighter, the shapes more graphic and the hairstyles exude an easy, but deliberate, elegance that everyone’s going ga-ga over. The people at Toni&Guy couldn’t wait any longer and have worked beauty magic, creating looks that embody the bright spring trends without a tonne of effort. So even if it’s windy and raining right now, go on and check out the looks you’ll be wearing once the season starts and feel all warm inside. Texture Play The hair and makeup textures for spring are at odds with one another, in a good way. Matte lips reigned supreme on the catwalks, while blown-out, silky hair dethroned last season’s mussed-up manes. Even though this style seems high maintenance, think of the big picture. “It definitely takes a bit of effort, but it can last a few days,” says a salon stylist. “After working a handful of mousse into the roots, rake a smoothing serum through the mid-lengths and ends. Next, create a deep side part and blowdry the hair with a big, round brush for maximum volume. Make sure you direct the air (from the dryer) down the hair shaft to really smooth and polish the cuticle as advised. Keep the brush moving at the ends of the hair to give it that nice, shiny effect. Once the strands are dry, add a touch of hairspray to lock in the glossy look.” To compensate for all the gloss in the hair, work one of the season’s hottest textures onto the lips: supermatte. What makes it so flattering? The matte look absorbs light, which allows the skin to reflect light. Instead of a bright red, choose a trendy orange as it’s a nice spin on the regular scarlet hues. Braided Blues There are two things that never seem to go out of style: braids and blue eye shadow. This year, the moody make-up hues were given an electric shock. The braided part is fantastic for those mornings when you wake up with a weird kink in your hair and need a quick fix. But even better; it only looks complicated. “It’s a cool take on a Mohawk,” says a Toni&Guy stylist. “It has architectural elements, so it looks hard to do, but it’s not. It’s one of those hairstyles that people will ask, how did you do that? In other words, it’s the hair equivalent of a party trick.” To get the look, divided all the hair into three sections – one large Mohawk piece from the hairline to the nape and one on each side of the head. Then pin the Mohawk section out of the way, comb pomade through each side section and pull them together into a sleek low ponytail with an elastic. Then, take the Mohawk section and Dutch braid it down the back of the head. Instead of crossing the pieces over with every rotation, pull them under. Braid it all the way to the ends (going straight over the low pony) and secure with another elastic. Call Toni&Guy at Seef Mall on 17 001-700.
