Bahrain This Month - April 2016

160 April 2016 www.bahrainthismonth.com Together with its brand ambassadors and race-winning F1 drivers, this Swiss luxury watch manufacturer introduces two special edition watches, just in time for the Grand Prix season. IWC Schaffhausen, in collaboration with Formula One drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, has developed two special edition watches, each limited to 250 pieces. The two Silver Arrow drivers each unveiled their own personal Ingenieur Chronograph, just days before the Singapore Grand Prix. The company also announced the renewal of its current partnership with the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team. Apart from their professional interest in Formula One, both drivers also share a passion for mechanical watches and had a hand in the design of their own timepieces. It was no coincidence that the chronograph was chosen from the Ingenieur family. Firstly, it is the epitome of sports timing; and secondly, the Ingenieur collection pays tribute to the global partnership between IWC and Mercedes AMG Petronas with materials typically used in motorsport, such as titanium, carbon fibre and ceramic. For both drivers, the only conceivable material for the case was titanium. With a satin finish, the light grey metal used for the highperformance components in motorsport is particularly appealing. These rugged timepieces have been equipped with one of the most efficient movements manufactured entirely by IWC, the 89361 calibre. Specially developed for this movement design, the IWC double-pawl winding system is one of the most efficient drives used in haute horlogerie movements from IWC. The upper totalizer displays clocked hours and minutes as clearly as the time of day, and stopped times up to one minute are measured by the central seconds hand. Another very practical feature for anyone who frequents the world’s racing circuits is the flyback function for measuring pit-stop times. Both of the special editions have a special feature on the reverse side: inset into the titanium case back is a medallion of carbon fibre, which may well show signs of wear and tear. A certificate supplied with each watch confirms that the material originally comes from one of the Silver Arrow cars used by Mercedes AMG Petronas. The back of the watch is sealed with a water-resistant sapphire glass that bears the personal logo of Nico Rosberg or Lewis Hamilton on the inner surface. Ingenieur Constant-Force Tourbillon With its spectacular Ingenieur Constant-Force Tourbillon (Ref. IW590001), IWC Schaffhausen has secured itself a leading position in the Constructors’ Championship of haute horlogerie. To ensure a particularly regular rate, the watchmakers integrated the patented constant-force mechanism in a tourbillon – an impressive example of engineering at its best. Ingenieur Chronograph Edition “Nico Rosberg” This edition (Ref. IW379603) features a titanium case, silver-plated dial and rubber strap, which has an added touch of luxury with its embossed calfskin inlay and grey, quilted stitching. The yellow colour of the seconds hand and of the hands in the totalizer at 12 o’clock recall the neon yellow helmet that was Nico Rosberg’s trademark for seven years. Ingenieur Chronograph Edition “Lewis Hamilton” This edition (Ref. IW379602) features a titanium case, black carbon-fibre dial and skin-friendly titanium bracelet with precision-adjustment clasp. The technophile Mercedes driver’s watch directly reflects the high-tech materials used in Formula One and is the only timepiece in the entire IWC collection with a titanium bracelet.
